Thruway Authority Announces Interchange 17 Reconstruction Project to Necessitate Traffic Stoppages on I-84 and I-87

The New York State Thruway Authority today announced that in addition to the scheduled lane closures on I-84, blasting being conducted as part of the I-84/I-87 Interchange 17 Reconstruction Project will necessitate periodic traffic stoppages on I-84 and I-87 beginning at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, August 13, weather permitting.

Periodic traffic stoppages will occur between the hours of 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on I-84 at Exit 7 (Union Ave., Rte. 300, I-87), on I-87 at Exit 17 (Newburgh, I-84, Rte. 17K, Stewart Airport)  and on Stewart Ave., a local road.  The stoppages are scheduled to last no more than 10 minutes each.  Blasting activity and traffic stoppages will continue to take place from 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., Monday through Thursday until October, weather permitting.

Dynamic Message Signs (DMS) will be placed to advise motorists of the traffic stoppages. Motorists are urged to tune to Highway Advisory Radio (HAR) 1610 AM for updates.

The work is being completed by A. Servidone/B. Anthony Construction Corporation of Castleton, New York and is scheduled to be completed by November 2009.

The Authority appreciates motorists’ patience while this essential project moves forward.
