Thruway Authority Announces Brief Traffic Stoppages Scheduled On Berkshire Connector
Motorists May Experience Delays
The New York State Thruway Authority today announced that steel removal for an overhead bridge project near the Massachusetts State Line on the Berkshire Connector, will require periodic traffic stoppages on Tuesday, October 28, 2008 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., weather permitting. In the event of inclement weather, the steel removal and traffic stoppages will be on Wednesday, October 29, 2008.
During the scheduled project, traffic in both the eastbound and westbound directions will be brought to a complete stop. The periodic traffic stoppages are expected to last no longer than 10 minutes each. Motorists are advised that they may experience residual traffic delays as a result of the stoppages.
This phase of the bridge replacement project will include removing steel girders from an overhead bridge between Interchanges B3 (Route 22, Austerlitz, New Lebanon) and the Massachusetts State Line on the Berkshire Connector.
The $6.4 million bridge project is being performed by Bette & Cring Construction Group, of Latham, New York, and is scheduled for completion in spring of 2009.
The Authority will activate its Dynamic Message Signs (DMS) to advise motorists of the construction project.
As always, motorists are reminded to remain alert and aware of their surroundings while traveling through the construction work zone. Motorists should also keep in mind that fines for speeding are doubled in construction work zones.
The Authority appreciates motorists’ patience and understanding as this essential highway improvement project takes place.
