New York State Thruway Authority Announces I-84 Update
Weather continues to cause delays
The New York State Thruway Authority has announced that winter weather conditions continue to cause delays for westbound motorists traveling toward Pennsylvania.
The Authority has been notified by Pike County, Pennsylvania authorities that I-84 in Pennsylvania is currently closed due to winter weather conditions. Due to those conditions, motorists traveling I-84 westbound in New York are advised that I-84 is closed at the New York/Pennsylvania state line.
The Authority has activated a Dynamic Message Sign along I-84 westbound to alert motorists of the Pennsylvania road closure.
In addition, numerous accidents that had closed the eastbound lanes of I-84 earlier this morning have been cleared and both lanes are now open.
Flooding has been reported on the mainline of the Thruway between milepost six and milepost nine. Crews are working to alleviate the situation, but water is affecting two lanes at this time and traffic has been slowed as a result.
The Authority has issued TRANSalerts to subscribers advising them of I-84 conditions and flooding on the mainline.
The Authority offers a free email service called TRANSalert to its customers via email or text messaging to inform them of major unscheduled incidents that may affect their travel on the Thruway. To sign up for TRANSalert service, customers can visit the Authority's website at www.nysthruway.gov/tas/.
