Thruway Authority Announces Bridge Work Near Interchange 24 (Albany, I-87/I-90) to Necessitate Westbound Lane Closures

The New York State Thruway Authority today announced that overhead bridge work will necessitate westbound lane closures near Interchange 24 (Albany, I-87/I-90) on Thursday, October 30, 2008 beginning at 10:00 a.m., weather permitting.

Authority maintenance crews will be closing the right and center westbound lanes, just west of Interchange 24, between milepost 149.7 and milepost 150.8, at 10:00 a.m. It is anticipated that the bridge work will be completed by 12:00 p.m.

The Authority will activate its Highway Advisory Radio (HAR) to advise motorists of the lane closures. Dynamic Message Signs (DMS) will also be posted in advance of the area to provide motorists with notice of the required lane closures.

Motorists are reminded to remain alert and aware of their surroundings while traveling through the work zone. Motorists should also keep in mind that speeding fines are doubled in work zones.

The Authority appreciates motorists’ patience and understanding while this essential project takes place.

The Authority offers a free email service called TRANSalert to its customers via email or text messaging to inform them of major unscheduled incidents that may affect their travel on the Thruway. To sign up for TRANSalert service, customers can visit the Authority's website at www.nysthruway.gov/tas/.
